I’m Back!

A few years ago, I made the decision to step back from wedding photography. Before I made that choice, weekends away from my family weren’t a large sacrifice. My kids were still little, and Saturdays didn’t hold much more significance than any other day of the week. But as the kids got older and started competing in sport our weekends changed dramatically! Watching them compete became my new weekend obsession, and I hated the idea of missing any event, no matter how big or small. I didn’t want to miss these precious moments, so I made the decision to focus more on family photography, which allowed me to stay closer to home and avoid booking work too far in advance.

Now that my kids have all finished school and our weekends aren’t packed with sports events anymore, I find myself looking at things differently. I miss the excitement and challenges of photographing weddings. I miss seeing and photographing the connections between people. I miss the chaos of a wedding day. I miss the joy. I miss being kept on my toes trying to find the best light and location, and turning something that looks mundane into something beautiful.

So, it looks like I’m back! I’ve jumped back into wedding photography with some local weddings, and I’ve even stepped in as a backup photographer for other pros who needed a last-minute replacement (definitely a photographer’s worst fear!). It feels great to be back doing what I love and obsessing over all things photography!
