Capturing Love in the Outback: The Beauty of Wedding Photography in Rural Australia
I just love photographing a rural wedding! I have photographed on a number of properties in Central and Western Queensland, from regions around Rockhampton, Longreach, Emerald, Clermont, Roma, Blackall and all the way to Jundah! I love the uniqueness that these settings bring, the vast landscapes and rustic environments provide a stunning backdrop. The simple elegance of the natural surroundings enhances the intimate moments of the wedding ceremony and you can just feel the genuine authenticity. My clients’ creativity always amazes me, they can turn the most mundane shed into something of beauty! The atmosphere is a little more relaxed and everyone knows they are there for a good time!
Tips for the Perfect Rural Wedding Photos
Embrace the Landscape: Let the beauty of the outback be a central part of your photos. Sometimes we might be in the mix of drought but despite the unease of this there is always beauty, even if it isn’t evident. A little dust in the afternoon light can make magic happen!
Golden Hour: One of the key elements of stunning wedding photos is natural lighting. Take advantage of the soft, golden light of sunset for the most romantic atmosphere. Bridal party portraits are taken during the golden hour to make the most of this magical light.
Shade is your friend: An area of large shade that has some beautiful backlight will provide consistent, flattering light for your family formal photos. It will also deliver a little comfort from the heat!
Get Creative: Consider using old-fashioned items like wooden crates, miss-matched table wear, hessian and lace tablecloths to create a charming vintage ambiance that complements the rural setting. Utilize fairy lights, lanterns, and candles to enhance the magical atmosphere of an outdoor wedding, adding to the warm and inviting glow. Remember sometimes less is more, don’t overdo the clutter. Rustic is synonymous with comfort and farm to table.
